Pantheon Releases Early Access Decoupled Architecture Updates to Accelerate Developer Collaboration

Platform enhancements enable front- and back-end teams to launch faster and deliver exceptional end-user experiences

SAN FRANCISCO (August 15, 2022) – Pantheon, the SaaS-based website operations (WebOps) platform for developers, designers and marketers, today announced several new platform features that enhance the user experience and streamline workflows to boost productivity. Updates to Pantheon’s Early Access decoupled architecture also level-up user experience, resilience and results with front-end frameworks and a headless open source CMS on a single platform.

“Every platform enhancement we roll out is ultimately focused on empowering teams to deliver extraordinary digital experiences faster, allowing them to produce more meaningful results,” said Josh Koenig, Pantheon co-founder and chief strategy officer. “We know that collaboration and productivity are critical to web teams making a dent. These updates continue to strengthen our platform’s role in maximizing the impact of today’s WebOps teams.”

In a recent survey of marketing and IT leaders, conducted by Pantheon in partnership with Hanover Research, 42% of respondents say working with others to develop and manage their website is their biggest challenge. The new features of Pantheon’s Early Access decoupled architecture, along with other new platform enhancements like Autopilot Environment Syncing, bring front-end and back-end teams together, in one platform, to simultaneously work on their sites, automate routine updates, eliminate bottlenecks, and drive better business results.

“Marketing leaders want to deliver the extraordinary user experiences made possible by modern front-ends, but are often daunted by the costs and risks of adopting a more complex decoupled architecture. By providing one platform for all the components, and including world-class CMS in the equation, Pantheon is paving the way for this use case,” said Koenig. “WebOps teams working on decoupled projects with Pantheon start quicker, launch faster, iterate more easily, and they include the work and needs of designers and content creators as well as delighting the end users visiting their sites.”

With the new decoupled architecture, Pantheon natively runs modern front-end frameworks that use Node.js to deliver the best possible user experience. Teams with Early Access can connect to GitHub and deploy front-end sites built with frameworks like Gatsby and Next.js that pull in content from a WordPress or Drupal CMS, all on one platform. Both Static Site Generation and Server-Side Rendering are fully supported, including a built-in pathway for previewing content before it is published.

In addition to the decoupled architecture advancements, several other newly released platform capabilities aim to simplify teams’ website development, execution, and management efforts, including:

  • Autopilot Environment Syncing: Autopilot Environment Syncing allows users to sync their environments before Autopilot schedules and applies updates. With improved visual regression testing (VRT), users can easily detect visual and content changes before pushing live, which simplifies stakeholder reviews, drives collaboration and boosts team productivity.

  • New Dashboard: Redesigned dashboard navigation will now be the default for all Pantheon users, bringing most-loved features, including the site portfolio list, site creation, and Multidev, into one view. This allows users to access all of their work from one location, keeping their most important tasks at their fingertips.

  • Site Portfolio Report: For enterprises that manage multiple sites and complex web strategies, the new Site Portfolio Report makes it simple to understand invoices and know, at a glance, how individual sites and events contribute to the share of total cost. And, for customers who bill others for Pantheon services, Site Portfolio Report makes downstream invoicing easy. All Pantheon sites can be seen in one view, with simple graphs and visuals available for each. Dynamic filters, search capabilities and export functionality enable quick analysis and sharing with stakeholders. The capability also can be used to better understand and control costs across the portfolio.
