Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a WordPress engineer walks into a room full of Drupal developers. It might sound like the setup for a joke, but there I was, at the end of my first DrupalCon, mic’d up and presenting at the Pantheon booth as if I had valuable insights for the Drupal community. You’re probably wondering how I got here. I know I am.

I love the hallway track at in-person conferences. Sure, the official sessions will show you the polished version of how web development should be done. But I want to talk to people about how it is really done.

Earlier this month the 1.0 version of Drupal CMS was released. It enhances Drupal core with essential features that experienced developers would typically add if they had unlimited time. Providing this functionality out of the box makes Drupal more accessible to new users.

Drupal CMS dropped earlier this month to quite a bit of fanfare and discussion. I was surprised at how many eyes from the WordPress ecosystem have turned to Drupal for the first time in a long time. I took this as an opportunity to dig into Drupal CMS and was pleasantly surprised. Here’s what I learned.
