Enhanced Drupal Integration for Content Publisher

We're excited to share some news about a significant upgrade to Pantheon Content Publisher, specifically for our Drupal users. We've rewritten our original CP Drupal Module. Here's what this means for you.

For those unfamiliar with Content Publisher, it's a content integration cloud service designed to streamline how you create and publish web content from authoring tools such as Google Docs to websites running WordPress, Drupal, Next.js, or any other composable technology.

Content Publisher bridges the gap between Google Docs and your website, allowing content creators to continue working with familiar tools and removing tedious manual content loading in CMSs.

During our beta testing phase, we received valuable feedback indicating that the module needed improved integration with Drupal. You spoke, we listened!

What was missing?

Think of it this way: The old module was bolted onto Drupal, while the new one does things “the Drupal way.” The previous integration had some limitations, which included:

  • Relying on Drupal View for rendering and not using entities or other core Drupal parts.
  • Searching for content from both Content Publisher and Drupal was not possible.
  • Relying on the Smart Components concept in the Drupal Single Directory Component (SDC) system. While a great Drupal tool, it’s not the most common Drupal development practice.
  • Inconsistent real-time preview.
  • One preview for multiple collections and no reliable preview for other collections.

Mission: a true Drupal citizen

We set out with a clear mission: to create a Drupal module that fully utilizes Drupal’s capabilities. By managing content from the system as standard Drupal entities, we ensure Drupal developers can work with it as easily as with content created directly within Drupal.

What does this mean for you?

This update brings a host of improvements:

  • Enhanced Drupal integration: Fully leverage Drupal's features such as entities, search, fields, and the layout builder with the Content Publisher content.
  • Increased flexibility: Gain more control over how content is displayed and managed in Drupal.
  • Streamlined workflows: Empower your developers to work more efficiently with familiar Drupal tools and processes.

Beyond that, code quality, testing, and our internal QA have been ramped as the module moves from alpha to a release candidate.

Decision-makers, project managers, and content teams will see increased efficiency, allowing web teams to get content live quickly and in the best possible way.

This update also brings better content management, allowing you to organize and combine sources within Drupal without barriers. It future-proofs your workflows by aligning them with the latest Drupal capabilities.

Built with and by the Drupal community

Last but not least, this upgrade is the result of a community-driven effort. The original module was developed with our stellar Drupal partners at Digital Polygon. The latest version resulted from a collaboration with Drupal developer Karoly “Chx” Negyesi, who helped us deliver a major update in record time.

This update will significantly improve your experience with Content Publisher on Drupal. We're committed to making your web publishing process as smooth and powerful as possible.

Thanks for being with us on the Pantheon Content Publisher journey!
