Advancing Web Operations: Innovations from the 2026 Pantheon Hackathon
The Pantheon Hackathon is an annual event where our teams—from Engineering to Product and Design—drop their day-to-day work to focus on moonshot ideas, pressing problems, and disruptive innovations.
Here are the latest innovations from our January 2026 Hackathon, all designed to make your experience on Pantheon faster, more consistent, and more collaborative.
Consistency, Quality, and Speed
1. Unified Notifications Hub
Today, critical alerts can get scattered across the Pantheon dashboard, leading to missed billing changes, delayed incident response, and frustrated users.
The Unified Notifications Hub project directly addresses this by creating a centralized, persistent location for all updates.
- What it does: Provides one place to find all notifications, organized by category, with a quick triage preview pane.
- The Impact: No more hunting for information. You can quickly see what's changed across all your sites, ensuring they never miss a failed deployment or a critical system status alert.
- Team Members: Kai Wolf, Ashima Shrivastava, Melissa Miller, Cindy Ross, Stephanie Pawlowski
2. The Easy Switch
Managing your site's PHP and search configurations can involve manual file edits, which introduces avoidable errors and a degraded user experience.
The Easy Switch simplifies this by moving configuration into the dashboard.
- What it does: Allows users to configure PHP and Solr search versions directly in the dashboard.
- The Impact: Customers can upgrade PHP faster, avoid manual pantheon.yml edits, and experience fewer configuration errors. This provides a smoother, more modern workflow that aligns with the "Protect & Grow the Base" theme.
- Team Members: Roshny Kunjappan, Babatunde Afolabi, Phil Tyler
3. Unacceptable Error Rates Dashboard
For customers managing a large portfolio of sites (10s or 100+), quickly understanding the operational health of their entire fleet is a major challenge.
This project introduces a new, dedicated dashboard to tackle the issue.
- What it does: Creates a single dashboard to track and surface sites with unacceptable error rates. It helps distinguish between 400s (customer code issues) and 500s (server/platform issues).
- The Impact: Shifts teams from reactive troubleshooting to proactive issue catching, improving operational visibility, reducing Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and preventing revenue loss from undetected issues.
- Team Members: Serena Xu, Miao Lin, Tyrell Curry, Leeae Joo, John DeWolf
4. Coming to Your Inbox: The Pantheon Monthly Pulse
We know that managing a digital portfolio shouldn’t feel like a guessing game. You’ve told us you need better visibility into your sites, and we’ve heard you loud and clear: you deserve to see the full value of your investment.
While our team is hard at work building comprehensive, real-time portfolio reporting directly into your dashboard, we didn't want to make you wait for the insights you need today.
What’s changing?
As part of a recent internal innovation sprint, we’re launching the Monthly Portfolio Snapshot. Once a month, we’ll drop a high-level report directly into your inbox that aggregates the data that matters most.
What you’ll see:
- Portfolio-Wide Performance: A bird’s-eye view of your entire site collection in one place.
- The Pantheon Advantage: We’re pulling back the curtain on the "invisible" work we do—like automated workflows, security patches, and infrastructure optimizations—that keeps your sites outperforming the competition.
- Actionable Metrics: See exactly how Pantheon’s high-performance hosting is protecting your uptime and scaling your impact.
- Why we’re doing this: We want to bridge the gap between "hosting" and "peace of mind." This is our first step in giving you total clarity into how your portfolio is thriving on Pantheon.
- Team Members: Serena Xu, David Rush
Collaboration and Knowledge
1. Multidev Collaboration Hub
Pantheon's Multidev environments are where cross-functional teams review work before it goes live. However, the process for leaving visual feedback is fragmented (screenshots, Slack, email).
The Multidev Collaboration Hub brings a new layer of communication right onto your preview site.
- What it does: Provides a Figma-like commenting experience directly on the live Multidev preview. Users can click on an element to leave contextual feedback.
- The Impact: Eliminates the need for screenshots and back-and-forth clarification. Feedback is unified, contextual, and shareable via a single link, saving hours of developer time and helping teams "fix the right thing, the first time."
- Team Members: Duncan Schouten
2. Web-Based Google Docs Site Generator
New and prospective Content Publisher users often struggle to imagine their workflows and experience the product's value quickly.
This innovation creates a fast, frictionless path to seeing Content Publisher in action.
- What it does: Provides a self-serve demo that allows users to instantly generate a live website from an editable, pre-filled Google Doc template.
- The Impact: Offers a much faster time-to-value for Content Publisher. Users can "explore and discover" immediately, which helps drive trial engagement, gather valuable product metrics via Amplitude integration, and create a clearer path from trial to conversion.
- Team Members: Erika Sibal, Sunni Chen, Andrew Glago, Kevin Basarab
Other Notable Innovations
- Support Efficiency Tools: Updates to the Pantheon Dashboard to bypass tedious, repetitive tasks for Technical Support, Engineering, and Customer Success Managers, leading to quicker, more accurate customer answers.
- Team Lead: Dylan Baumann
- DEMOlition Derby: Automatically creates a professional workspace and a fully-built demo site at user signup, shifting the new-user experience from "guess-and-setup" to "explore-and-discover" for faster time to value.
- Team Leads: Jose Vazquez, Kristi Whitman, Noah Novick, Shruti Soneji, and Ty Herbert
- The Write Stuff: A UX writing style guide that ensures consistent voice, terminology, and formatting across the Pantheon product experience, improving user confidence and professionalism. This guide is also available as a Claude Code skill within the pantheon-skills plugin.
- Team Leads: Kristi Whitman, Melissa Miller
We look forward to rolling out these and other innovations in the coming months as we continue to create value for all Pantheon users.
