Modernizing Pantheon's Site Dashboard: A Leap Forward for Developers

In this blog

Pantheon is proud to announce our modernized core product offering: the Site Dashboard - a place where developers work daily. We focused on enhancing both the user interface and the underlying architecture to provide a better experience for customers and internal employees.

We are making the new dashboard available on an opt-in basis to gather feedback. We will provide a timeline for complete rollout in order to accommodate customers who will need to update their internal documentation as a result of some UX changes. Please join our beta program to help us test and shape the dashboard to meet your needs.

Why the change?

This modernization effort puts us on a modern front-end framework that supports faster feature development and boosts accessibility.

The team prioritized keeping the user experience familiar while simultaneously improving UI patterns, accessibility, and overall ease of use. To ensure consistency across the dashboard, we established a set of guidelines covering aspects like link behavior, date and time formatting, and loading states. Usability tests played a key role in informing design decisions, ensuring that components were simplified and aligned with modern platform standards.

New features and enhancements

Several key improvements were implemented as part of the project. The commit history display was redesigned for better readability and alignment with industry standards. The site settings functionality was moved from a modal to a dedicated page, improving organization and scalability. The environment management page was also revamped, simplifying information presentation and reducing visual stress.

Accessibility was a major consideration throughout the project. By adopting the Pantheon design system, over 50% of existing accessibility issues were addressed. Improvements included the consistent use of colors for enabled/disabled states, enhanced keyboard navigation, and better screen reader compatibility. Critical actions, such as deleting a site, were enhanced to provide more user clarity.

The modernized dashboard introduces several other new features and improvements. Enhanced site metrics provide detailed traffic characteristics, helping customers identify bots, malicious activity, and visitor patterns. Developers will appreciate the ability to copy commit SHAs. Other enhancements include better information organization, improved contrast for accessibility, and consistent patterns for empty states and upsells.

This project represents a significant step forward for Pantheon's Site Dashboard, providing a more modern, user-friendly, and accessible experience for developers. These changes not only improve the current user experience but also lay the groundwork for future innovations and enhancements.
