It didn’t take me long to realize I needed to work with a team. After graduating college (as a theatre major) I started working as a freelance web developer. My first clients were theater companies. Without realizing it, I relied on my inside knowledge of their marketing needs to make up for my lack of computer science background. Once my clients diversified, I realized I needed help. I needed teammates.

The adoption of agile methodologies, at least within the WordPress and Drupal agency ecosystem, closely follows the Gartner Hype Cycle, a methodology charting the popularity of new tech. Prescriptive systems like Scrum with a capital "S" disrupted a culture that had operated for years on fixed budgets and waterfall Gantt charts.
In part one of this series I covered the need for digital agencies to stand out to thrive, and how one path to elevation is to evolve their practices from tech implementation to strategic business partners. This lets them engage clients earlier in their thought process — helping them understand how to define success in the first place and what resources they’ll need to succeed in addition to technology, etc.
