Introducing Monthly Maintenance Windows For Pantheon’s Dashboard and Workflows

Kshitij Dayal (KD), SVP Engineering Reading estimate: 2 minutes

Starting in September, Pantheon will have monthly maintenance windows to perform essential updates and improvements to the platform’s software and infrastructure. An hour-long window will not impact the performance or availability of customer websites. Access to the Pantheon web Dashboard and workflows may experience temporary interruptions.

We’re moving to a single monthly window for workflow maintenance to minimize impact on your team. Please review the essential information below for details.

When: Dates, times and duration

Pantheon weighed commercially reasonable efforts to schedule maintenance during the hours outlined here. Maintenance windows will not be scheduled during long and statutory holidays.

  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Day: Second Tuesday of each month
  • Time: 6 PM to 7 PM Pacific Time
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • First window: Tuesday, Sep 10, 2024

What: Features impacted

Monthly scheduled maintenance will not impact live sites. Our work is scheduled only for services such as:

  • Login into Pantheon web Dashboard
  • Terminus command line operations
  • Automated or manual workflows
  • Dev, Test, or Multidev environments

For example, during the maintenance hour, workflows run within the Dashboard or via the Terminus command line may experience interruptions. These workflows include the creation of new Multidev environments, site backup or restore operations, or scripts run by Quicksilver. We recommend avoiding starting workflows during maintenance windows.

Why now?

Pantheon has always performed regular maintenance to ensure our services' reliability, security and performance, reducing the risk of unexpected downtime. Our goal is to maximize the availability, predictability and transparency of the Pantheon workflows your team relies upon. We’re now aggregating maintenance to a single and predictable time each month so your team can better plan ahead.

How: Communication and Support

An update on the Status page will be posted on the first Thursday of each month to alert you about upcoming maintenance the following Tuesday. At the same time, the Dashboard will feature a banner about the upcoming maintenance. With respect to your time, we will not be sending individual emails. You may subscribe to Pantheon’s status updates here.

When necessary, we will leverage the same window to perform maintenance that may impact live sites. In these cases, we will notify you at least 30 days before the window.

Should you have any questions during scheduled maintenance windows, please contact our support team at helpdesk@pantheon.io. Our engineering team will be on standby.

With regular platform updates, we hope to greatly improve the reliability, security, and availability of the platform.
